Sgs1p

Protein FULL name:

Nucleolar DNA helicase of the RecQ family involved in genome integrity maintenance; regulates chromosome synapsis and meiotic joint molecule/crossover formation; similar to human BLM and WRN proteins implicated in Bloom and Werner syndromes

Sgs1p (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) is product of expression of SGS1 gene.

FUNCTION: Interacts with topoisomerases II and TOP3. Could create a deleterious topological substrate that TOP3 preferentially resolves. The TOP3-SGS1 protein complex may function as a eukaryotic reverse gyrase introducing positive supercoils into extrachromosomal ribosomal DNA rings. Together with topoisomerase II has a role in chromosomal segregation. Maintains rDNA structure where it has a role in re-starting stalled replication forks.

SUBUNIT: Heterodimer with TOP3. Forms a complex with TOP3 and RMI1. Forms a ternary complex with a MLH1-MLH3 heterodimer (MutLbeta) during meiosis. Interacts with TOP2.

INTERACTION: Q12083:MLH3; NbExp=1; IntAct=EBI-17059, EBI-31634; Q12306:SMT3; NbExp=1; IntAct=EBI-17059, EBI-17490; P13099:TOP3; NbExp=1; IntAct=EBI-17059, EBI-19365;

SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Nucleus, nucleolus.

SIMILARITY: Belongs to the helicase family. RecQ subfamily.

SIMILARITY: Contains 1 helicase ATP-binding domain.

SIMILARITY: Contains 1 helicase C-terminal domain.

SIMILARITY: Contains 1 HRDC domain.
